Dr Claire Nightingale

FRCA FANZCA

Claire is a consultant anaesthetist at Buckshealthcare and has been working with Shaun Appleton on Mondays (NHS) and Wednesdays (Shelburne) since 2002.

Her interests are anaesthesia for all types of laparoscopic surgery, day case surgery and obesity. She is a founder member of The Society for Obesity and Bariatric Anaesthesia (SOBA) since it formed in 2009. She regularly lectures on the topic of safe anaesthesia for obese patients.

She is author of the Association of Anaesthetists/SOBA Guidelines for the Perioperative Management of the Obese Surgical Patient published in Anaesthesia in June 2015.

She introduced depth of anaesthesia monitoring to our hospitals in 2004 having used it during her six years of practice in Australia. This allows her to more accurately titrate and monitor the anaesthetic. She is continually refining her technique with the aim of providing the best surgical conditions with minimal post operative pain, nausea and vomiting.

His practice is based on contemporary evidence, and he is happy to discuss the range of anaesthetic techniques available to provide optimum comfort and a safe recovery from surgery.
